My grandfather came to America from Germany by way of Italy in the early part of the twentieth century. Of all the noteworthy accomplishments in his life, the one which gave him the greatest pride was becoming an American. I came across his citizenship papers a few years ago while cleaning out my parents’ attic and suddenly found myself swallowing an apple the size of Texas, as I recalled how his eyes would well with tears whenever he spoke of himself and America in the same sentence. Being American was the most important thing in his life, and having known several naturalized citizens through the years, I can say with some authority that a lot of good people shared his intense feeling.
Where does a charlatan like Barack Hussein Obama, who is running for the highest office in the land, derive the right to virtually renounce his American citizenship in favor of being “a citizen of the world” and not be penalized severely for it? Have his anti America, blame America, hate America feelings lowered him to this level of rhetoric? Is this the kind of Socialistic, New World Order protagonist our country needs in charge during a global war and tough economic times?
His Berlin speech was supposed to be rousing and inspirational. It was…if you’re a former hippie or hippie wanna’ be like Obama. It was, however, mostly frightening, for as he described a world that sounded more like John Lennon’s utopian “Imagine” or spoke of equality among nations, I was reminded of another motivational speaker with the ability to play a crowd like stringed instrument. Even if this minstrel has no act without monitors from which to read his carefully crafted beliefs, it’s an especially frightening image when you stand such a vocal musician in front of a crowd of cheering, slogan-shouting Germans!
And where was our flag? During this speech and throughout many appearances on Obama’s photo-op fantasy, the American flag was conspicuously absent. In fact, the flag was intentionally missing by his own directive. There were U.S. flags in the crowd but none on stage. Many in the Liberal media tried to compare his Berlin engagement to speeches given by J.F.K and Ronald Reagan. Besides the obvious futility in trying to compare homemade rotgut with sparkling champagne, it seems to me our presidents who spoke on that spot praised America and proudly talked of her many accomplishments. They did not apologize for imagined mistakes and certainly not for our greatness as a world power, as did the Democrats’ presidential pretender. The show the world witnessed was more reminiscent of crowds and speeches I’ve seen in films of Germany during the 1930s. Is Obama proposing that same sort of New World Order…is globalization his idea of change? Is he campaigning for something more than merely President of the United States?
We have a few generations of young people about to vote that know only revisionist history from sadly rewritten texts; others who know only personal agendas Marxist-Socialist professors have drummed into their heads; still others who know nothing of history because of a profound disinterest in anything that happened in this world before they got here. The shenanigans we are witnessing will probably play well with them. I doubt that patriotic Americans will fall for Obama’s reconstituted drivel.
As our nation reaches a pivotal crossroads in this first decade of the 21st Century, we can only hope that reasonable, thinking people still make up the majority of our citizens and that hard lessons of the past will, in fact, be remembered after all.
