Well, it’s working. After seven years of hacking away like a bunch of madmen with wood chippers, the Democrats have nearly brought the greatest economy the world has ever seen to its knees. Through sheer doom and gloom repetitiveness, they have managed to set a self-fulfilling prophecy in motion that started everyone peeking out the window to see if the guy next door is in financial trouble. Most people had to look at the other guy because they were doing just fine, themselves, so it must be him.
Am I blaming the Liberal Left for our current economic dilemma? You bet! As the Democrat drumbeat of doom continues, people are beginning to react to their fears instead of reality and it’s taking a dangerous toll on the American economy. I have a friend who cashed in all of his savings and investments to pay off his house because of the fear our economy will collapse and he’ll lose everything. His flawed logic tells him that, at least this way, his family will always have a roof over their heads. In the next breath, he wonders what is happening to cause the financial chaos that’s beginning to grip the country. “Oil” he says. “It’s got to be the price of oil. One hundred ten dollars a barrel is killing us.” The Left has actually scared itself into believing its own mule-muffins!
Hello…anybody home in there? It’s not just oil. It’s guys like this losing faith in the country and cashing in their chips that are exacerbating the problem. As a confirmed Left Wing Democrat, he doesn’t see himself as part of the cause nor does he understand the relationship between continual badmouthing of the economy and current conditions. Oil is expected to return to around $70 a barrel by September, the housing slump will eventually turn around and the stock market will soon stabilize…but my friend’s savings will never return to their former levels nor his investments go to work for him again.
Imagine if everyone reacted this way? Many will. Do we create another “Wonderful Life” scenario, throwing the old Savings and Loan under the bus or shall we have faith in our system, make certain big government bureaucrats keep their overbloated hands off the controls and conduct our affairs in such a way that allows the economy to self-correct sooner rather than later? Part of the answer lies in being certain all Socialist-leaning Democrats are soundly defeated at the polls in November. The rest of the answer lies in confidence and common sense from within our own hearts and minds.
