Before I expose another devious Democrat ploy, I’d like to go on record as saying that the worst of the Republican candidates for President is light years ahead of the best the Democrats have to offer…except for Ron Paul. I have to eliminate Paul from the equation because I don’t know what he is. He certainly is neither a Republican nor a Conservative nor the Libertarian he claims to be. Despite his mastery of most Democrat talking points, he’s not supposed to be one of them, either. As to what Ron Paul thinks, I’ve heard enough to know that he probably doesn’t and ask why he is occasioned to share a podium with so many good men who actually care what happens to America. He’s the wrong man in the wrong place at the wrong time. When is someone going to buy him a set of new teeth and just send him back to The Home?
My real concern has nothing to do with Ron Paul’s misfiring brain cells but rather with Mike Huckabee who, right now, is firing on all eight cylinders. He’s a good man and under normal circumstances I think he’d make a decent president, although we differ on a number of key issues. However, circumstances in both our country and the world are anything but normal and I fear the Democrats are using him as an easy-to- defeat diversion. How else can you explain their seeming disinterest in his meteoric rise in the polls? There have been only four attacks on Huckabee since his ascension to the “first tier” as a candidate, whereas assaults from the left are consistently in double digits with the other Republican candidates. Heck…they’ve been hitting each other harder than Huckabee!
For some time now, the Left has been depicting the rest of us as a bunch of religious nutjobs…and as if to prove their exaggerations, here comes Mike, a former Baptist preacher, surging to the front of the Republican line, invoking God at every turn and spouting Christian values. Think they didn’t notice? On the contrary, I believe he’s receiving a carefully calculated pass! Compared with Giuliani, Romney or Thompson [or even McCain], he might well be be the easiest for the Democrats to defeat in November.
The technique could be as simple as painting him to seem like another George Bush. The Dems have been campaigning against Mr. Bush for the past seven years…except, he’s not running in 2008. Or is he? Find a strongly religious candidate [like Mike] who shares Mr. Bush’s values and even some physical characteristics, beat the public over the head with their similarities until the line between the two men blurs and voila! All of the accumulated anti-Bush feeling becomes intense anti-Huckabee feeling! Just for good measure, deal the old separation of church and state card from the bottom of the deck and you’ve got a Democrat in the White House.
I’ve yet to decide which candidate I would prefer for the presidency but, whichever Republican gets the nod, you can be certain I’ll back him all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The choice becomes more difficult when you understand that our nominee must possess two sets of qualifications. First he needs to be someone capable of leading the free world through the quagmire of these dangerous and uncertain times. Second, he must have the charisma and general public appeal to decisively defeat either Hillary Marx Clinton or Barack Hussein. Unless he presents a powerful second qualifier, the first will quickly become moot.
As we move through the upcoming caucus and primary season, be careful where you place your trust. Remember the need for the Republican candidate to brandish a dual set of credentials and that, particularly in politics, paranoid is, most often, just good thinking. If I’m right, we may be witnessing the most devious Democrat ploy to date…and the strongest ally the unsuspecting Mike Huckabee has is the unholy Left.
