Our Founding Fathers fostered a two party system for good reason. It’s supposed to help keep everyone honest and flesh out fresh ideas. It used to be that the majority ruled. Now, if it’s not a bipartisan effort, one party or the other throws a tantrum like the little kid whose mommy doesn’t buy him candy at the grocery checkout. As for honesty, it has become a bigger casualty than patriotism.
In the past few years, we’ve redrawn our founders’ original design to include joint efforts on judicial appointments, increasing the minimum wage, not defunding the troops and amnesty for illegal aliens. Defeat of the amnesty abomination demonstrated just how out of touch both parties are with their constituents…but trying to cram the inherently flawed bill down our throats was bipartisan, nonetheless. If we can reach consensus on these important but lesser issues, why can’t we unite against a rag-tag horde of bloodthirsty devils who have sworn our annihilation on a stack of Korans? That’s where we could use some serious bipartisanship!
There’s a time for viewing one’s colleague across the aisle as an adversary and a time for seeing him as a fellow American. The time to be adversarial is not when your country is at war with a dangerous aggressor. When the enemy is at your door, it’s time to stop worrying about electability and start worrying about survival. It’s time to start embracing similarities and forgetting differences. It’s time to come together as one, in a single common cause. What better cause than preserving our lives and freedom? What better purpose than being certain not another drop of American blood is spilled on American soil?
What is it going to take for the average guy to ‘get it’? Will our self-serving political hacks ever ‘get it’? When wll they stop trying to figure out which party can seize the advantage and understand that, with division in our ranks, the advantage goes only to our enemies? Seven major cities have been targeted for destruction by al-Qaeda. Do we have to lose one or all of them before this country finally wakes up? I hope we’re smarter than that.
There are those who want to talk with the murdering cut-throats that threaten us. It’s important to know your enemy and there was a time when such meetings were fruitful in that regard. The problem is, those who would speak for us expect cooperation from the other side, even civility. “Gee, maybe they’d see we’re really nice guys and go away!” We would gain nothing from speaking with these devious thugs. They would gain valuable time. This is neither an enemy you can reason with nor one where you need dialog to understand its motives. Their intentions are clear and they are not going away any time soon. The Islamo-Nazis have set their sights on a new world order, cast in their image. They have told us what they will do and have already demonstrated [only some of] how they will do it. What is left to discover through discussion?
Like so many others before them with visions of world domination dancing in their heads, these barbarians can be crushed. They must be crushed. Real countries with real armies were soundly defeated once they ran into a solid wall of American resolve. Right now, the greatest weapon these swarthy sand people possess is our lack of resolve and they’re using it against us. Nay-sayers claim the war cannot be won through military means. Well, if they’d take the handcuffs off our brave fighting forces, we could mount one helluva holding action until something better comes along!
We may have two political parties but we are still one country. It’s time for Democrats to forget about ‘hanging chads’ and Republicans to return to their Conservative roots. It’s time for Liberals to stop investing in defeat and for all of us to start defining victory. It’s time for both parties to stop listening to the extremes of their political base and start protecting America, before the window of opportunity to do so slams shut.
