Spoiler?

Michael BloombergRoss PerotMichael who? It seems that Michael Bloomberg wants to be President of the United States, despite his hedging on the question. He has the multiple millions [perhaps billions] of dollars to finance his own campaign and the business acumen to run it effectively. I believe he’ll make the move within a few months, regardless of a pledge to finish his mayoral term. There are even some who say he could win but, from where I’m sitting, he’ll be in over his head and badly skin his political shins.

His first obstacle is that no one outside of the New York area knows him. Bloomberg has been a successful mayor but still walks in the shadow of Rudy Giuliani. In case you don’t think he’s joining the presidential stampede, he has already resigned his affiliation as a Republican and would run as an Independent. No Independent has ever won, so history is not on his side. Hurdle number two: He is fiercely liberal and would not appeal to a large Conservative base that is, already, looking at the current crop of Republican candidates as not conservative enough. He believes in abortion, strong gun control, high taxes, and big government. Sound like a Conservative? As for the Democrats they have a strong pack mentality and many have already fallen in love with Barak Hussein, the media’s “black enough” darling, while continuing to vue B.J’s wife as a possible heir apparent. Add to that the pinch of facing off with the ruthless Hillary election machine, stir in a thick New York accent [which is a turnoff to a good portion of the country] and you have all the ingredients for another Clinton victory.

Much as H. Ross Perot siphoned off enough Republican votes to allow ‘Slick Willy’ to slide into the White House back in 1992, I believe that Bloomberg would pull enough undecided middle-of-the-roaders to assure a Democrat victory in ‘08. Being a former liberal Democrat himself, one has to ask, “Is this part of some grand scheme to hand Hillary the keys to the country or just the insatiable appetite of a super-egotist wanting to consume the power meal of a lifetime?”
